Members of Fine City Chorus sang their way to their highest-ever score at the 50th British barbershop convention BABS – British Association of Barbershop Singers at the end of May. The judges gave them an overall score of 66.2% in the male chorus contest. You can see our performance on YouTube here.
Everyone had a great time at the Harrogate convention centre, with some fine performances and special events to enjoy, as the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Not only were the best choruses in this country competing and entertaining, a top quartet from America, Instant Classic, and a 50 strong chorus from Nashville, Music City, also took to the stage. They wowed audiences with their inspiring, and sometimes funny, musical performances.
Our Norwich mixed chorus, Mosaic Acapella Chorus, made their fourth appearance on the Convention competition stage. They got a higher score from the judges than they achieved last year, when the group’s deputy musical director, Christine Godfrey, had to take over at the very last minute because the regular MD caught Covid.
This year Christine had the satisfaction of leading the chorus to an improved score and top place in their division, which netted them a certificate and a bursary of £500.
